An ode creativity.

“I’m just not creative.”

“I have no idea what I’m doing.”

“Mine is for sure going to be a hot mess.”

These are some of the comments that we hear at the start of many of our creative workshops, specifically the seasonal wreaths. And you know what? Every.single.one. of these people made the most gorgeous wreaths, totally surprising themselves, and had the best time doing it.

Doing a creative project like this isn’t just for the crafty people out there. Research shows that doing something creative with your hands helps with anxiety, increases cognitive function, gives you a higher level of satisfaction, and can even help with insomnia or chronic pain. And in this case, the result (your beautiful wreath) is something that you can enjoy over and over again as you walk up to your front door or wherever you choose to hang your creation.

Sure, it’s something that is not totally complicated, you can certainly source all the products, lay it all out, and spend an afternoon snipping, twisting, and tucking away, but then you also have to clean up, and doing it solo is definitely not as fun. What we create is an experience- a space to gather with others, laugh, enjoy some time for yourself. We believe that time like this is an investment in yourself.

You might think , “there are horrible things going on in the world, how can I possibly think about something trivial as wreaths”, but here’s another perspective- we are here, we are doing our best, and we need to take care of ourselves, our mind, our spirit, and our community, and this is just one small way we can do that together.

Alice Walker once said, “Whenever you are creating beauty around you, you are restoring your own soul.” We think we could all use some more beauty around us these days.

We invite you to join us and our talented friend Alyson, owner of Flower and Forage, on November 2 to create something beautiful and nurture your soul. See you in the garden!
