On the mat.

You know that feeling, when you’re doing something and you’re SO present, you wholeheartedly feel like that’s exactly where you should be in that moment, and you’re just completely filled with gratitude? I had that experience last week when I joined a friend at a hot vinyasa yoga class, something I haven’t done since pre-pandemic. Yoga not your thing? No worries, no judgement here, but I’m sure you can relate to this feeling (so please, share what makes you feel this way).

I admit I was a little nervous. I work out regularly, but haven’t done an intense heated class (or really any yoga, in a couple years) and I thought it would be too much. I walk into the room and roll out my mat, and immediately feel like oh man, it’s HOT. I’m already sweating. Can I do this?? The lights were dim. The music was low. The class begins. We set our intentions. Mine is always the same- I thank myself. For making the time, for showing up, for giving myself this gift, and committing to letting go of anything that it’s on this rectangle of mat under me.

The class starts out slowly, but then intensifies - one breath, one movement. Inhale…exhale…flow. My body flowed, and suddenly the creativity flowed. I had ALL KINDS of ideas - about life, love, family, career, business, if I could’ve had a notebook next to me in that sweaty room, I would’ve filled so many pages. I was in the zone.

I did the entire class, no breaks. It was just me and my breath, and the beautiful energy of other breathing bodies around me. After the hour class is over, I walked out drenched in sweat, but feeling very much cleansed- mind, body, and definitely soul. I left something on that mat that night (and not just SO much sweat), and I left feeling empowered, positive, light, and damn proud of myself. It was SO good. I am hooked, and I’m back again tonight.

So what gives YOU this feeling? If you haven’t had it in a while, you owe it to yourself. What are you waiting for, GO!! Inhale…exhale….
